Passing in peace at the age of 90, Charlie succumbed to cancer on Saturday, Sept 22, 2018, in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by loving family. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years Marge, predeceased by his dedicated wife Madeleine Frances Rothe, daughters Liza, Carolyn, Mary-Jo, sons Rick and Roger, stepsons Bob and Bill, and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren of his extended family. Charlie was a dedicated and loving father, husband, grandfather, and an inspiration to those that he cared for. A wake will be held on Tues, September 25th from 2-4, 7-9 PM (one day) at Marinello Funeral Home, 493 Middle Country Rd, Coram NY 11727, 1-631-732-6969. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the same location at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 26th, followed by a final military memorial service at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11933. Charlie was born in Queens on March 5, 1928. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Fire Control Technician, and after discharge, began a long successful career with the NY Telephone Company, retiring after 35 years of service. He was an avid hunter, boater, and fisherman who loved being on the water with his son and friends. He also enjoyed reading, golfing at his condo country club, and spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could. There was nothing that Charlie couldn’t fix. Throughout his life, Charlie was a “can do” person, always able to tackle any project presented successfully with tenacity, never settling or accepting a completed project as being “that’s good enough”. Beneath his tough exterior was a person with a quick wit and a love for debate. His family looked up to him as a role model and a provider for his family. He was always the teacher, supporter, hard worker, and advice giver, always giving everything whenever called upon. But most of all, Charlie never compromised on anything to which he made a commitment. Thank you dad for being the person who showed us love and support every day … you will be missed as you join Mommy. Another butterfly has joined God’s fields of heaven.
